What is ADD/ADHD?
According to the American Psychological Association, ADD/ADHD, or Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, is a behavioral condition that makes focusing on everyday requests and routines challenging. People with ADD/ADHD typically have trouble getting organized, staying focused, making realistic plans and thinking before acting. They may be fidgety, noisy and unable to adapt to changing situations
ADHD Assessments
Initial Intake
Clients and their families will develop an action plan that best fits their individual needs. This collaborative approach ensures that clients’ specific troubles are targeted and that appropriate and efficacious treatment options are explored.
Psychological Evaluation
Because there is no single test that detects the presence of ADD/ADHD, a comprehensive evaluation is necessary in order to make accurate diagnoses. The Empowered Learning Transformation Centers uses a variety of formal, reliable, evidence-based psychological assessments to assist in the diagnosis of ADHD. The use of such assessments also provides the opportunity to rule out alternative diagnoses or other possible causes for the symptoms. Formal psychological evaluations may include continuous performance testing, intelligence testing, achievement testing, executive functioning testing, memory testing, and perception testing.
ADD/ADHD Services
Studies have shown that a multimodal approach to the treatment of ADD/ADHD can be the most effective. The Empowered Learning Transformation Centers works with all families to develop an individualized treatment plan, which may include a combination of services including therapy, medication management, cognitive training, mentoring, and academic support.
The Empowered Learning Transformation Centers offers a multitude of in-house care options that can be utilized well after an evaluation has been completed. We understand that the decision to utilize medication as a form of treatment is a considerable one, and that for many families, medication is simply not an option. Because medication is just one of many interventions for the successful management of ADD/ADHD symptoms, the Empowered Learning Transformation Centers offers a range of alternative treatment choices.
If and when appropriate, families who desire medication can receive referrals to primary care physicians for medication treatment. To ensure continuity of the client’s care, Empowered Learning Transformation Centers consults with physicians regarding assessments and findings, and provides them with appropriate feedback and insight.
