Brielle ADD Testing

Students suspected of having ADD/ADHD will be referred to a testing psychologist in the community for further evaluation and diagnosis. Medical Services has a referral list for local testing facilities. Students are responsible for charges incurred at testing sites. Some evaluation and testing is covered for students with the Aetna Student Health Insurance plan. Students with other health insurance should check with their insurance company about coverage under their policy.
Evaluations generally fall under two categories, comprehensive psychological evaluation or focused ADD/ADHD evaluation.
Comprehensive Psychological Evaluation
The evaluation takes approximately seven to eight hours and includes:
· Intellectual abilities testing
· Educational achievement testing
· Neuropsychological test battery, which includes testing in
o attentional functioning;
o organizational skills;
o motor skills;
o receptive and expressive language abilities;
o visual-perceptive and visual-constructive abilities;
o reasoning and problem-solving abilities; and
o learning and memory
o Personality screening to assess personality style, current coping skills, and social-emotional state
o Intellectual assessment
o Self-report and collateral report (usually from parents) of current and historical behavior and symptoms
o Record of school reports
o Assessment of attention capacities
o Additional features are evaluated as indicated
The evaluation takes approximately four hours and the primary purpose is to screen for ADD/ADHD. If ADD/ADHD is clearly indicated this may be sufficient testing to warrant medication. It includes:
Intellectual assessment:
o Self-report and collateral report (usually from parents) of current and historical behavior and symptoms
o Record of school reports
o Assessment of attention capacities
o Additional features are evaluated as indicated
