Sensory Integration
Sensory integration therapy, rendered by an occupational therapist, is the use of therapeutic activities focused on helping children process sensory input such as sounds, smells, tastes, brightness, movement and textures. Children experiencing sensory integration difficulties are not able to process sensory input smoothly and effortlessly which can cause various problems with daily activities such as mealtime, bathing, playtime, bedtime, transitions, peer interactions, dressing, and learning. Sensory integration therapy can improve the child’s ability to process and respond to sensory input in an appropriate way and improve overall daily function.
